Formula 1 has made several changes to the 2021 technical regulations aimed at reducing the performance gains that are putting a lot of stress on the tyres.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says this will definitely prevent Formula 1 cars from becoming quicker in 2021.

“I don’t think so,” said the Austrian when asked if the teams will be able to recover some of the performance.

“The aero was cut back considerably on the floor around the tyres, and it’s going to take a while to catch up.

“We’re still right in the middle of our development for next year, but I doubt we will be there quickly. In that respect, and with the tyres going a notch harder, I don’t think we will [be] near the laptimes that we have seen this year.

“At least not in the first half of the year,” concluded Wolff.
