Recently there were some rumours swirling around that George Russell could lose his 2021 Williams seat to Sergio Perez, who brings with him more sponsorship money.
Although Russell signed a three-year contract with Williams for 2019 – 2021, with Sergio Perez losing his Racing Point seat, rumours swirled around that the Mexican could bring his sponsorship money to the British team.
Since Russell is Mercedes’ junior driver, and the team is counting on his further development, this did not sit well with them. Ultimately Williams confirmed the Briton will indeed retain his drive for 2021. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is pleased with this development.

“I think they made a good choice,” concluded the Austrian.
