Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Mercedes High Performance Powertrains has “sorted” the team’s “Achilles’ heel” at the Mexican Grand Prix.

After the Mexican Grand Prix, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff revealed the team’s power unit factory – Mercedes High Performance Powertrains – has managed to solve an issue which has plagued the team at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in previous years.

“HPP has done a fantastic job over the past few years,” the Austrian said.

“That was always our Achilles’ heel here that the turbo didn’t breathe good enough. That’s sorted and it’s a strong weekend. Our power unit was like all the others.

“I couldn’t be more proud of what HPP has achieved with the power unit.”

Judging by the team’s performance in Mexico, where Lewis Hamilton managed to finish in P2, there’s no doubt that the W14 is a significantly better car than it was at the start of the season.

It’s good to hear that the team is also managing to tackle their power unit issues, as they try to position themselves as a serious challenger in 2024.
