Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the manufacturer will not be able to supply Red Bull with an engine “for various reasons”.

After Honda announced 2021 will be its final year in Formula 1, Red Bull was suddenly left without an engine supplier. Toto Wolff rules out the possibility of Mercedes supplying the Austrian team with a power unit post-2021.

“No, for various reasons, but the main being that we are supplying four teams, including us,“ said Wolff.

“We are almost in a state that we can’t make power units for all of us, so there is no capacity.

“But I have no doubt that Helmut [Marko, Red Bull’s motorsports advisor] will have a plan B, as he said, and probably doesn’t need to rely on any of the current power unit suppliers.”

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also confirmed that Wolff “made it clear that Mercedes is not keen to supply an engine”.
