Mercedes boss Toto Wolff refused to name his favorite moment of the season because Niki Lauda’s death makes “other things fade away”.
Although Mercedes had an amazing season and won the Constructors’ Championship for the sixth consecutive time, while Lewis Hamilton took home the drivers’ title, Toto Wolff doesn’t feel like celebrating. The season was also marked by the passing of the team’s non-executive chairman Niki Lauda, who succumbed to illness following a lung transplant.
When asked to name his favorite moment of the season, the Austrian refused.
“I don’t want to talk about the best moment because of the overshadowing occasion of Niki’s death,” explained Wolff.
“That’s an important subject for us this year. All of the other things fade away because of it.
“We’re very thankful for winning the championship, but this moment just overshadows everything else.”
