Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff shot down any talks of Mercedes having power unit issues ahead of the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Mercedes has been known to have certain issues with its engines, especially in hot weather. Additionally, early on in the 2020 season, several Mercedes customer teams experienced engine problems.

With the team’s engine boss Hywel Thomas mentioning certain power unit issues ahead of the 2021 season, the media started speculating that Mercedes could again experience engine reliability problems once the season starts. Team boss Toto Wolff, however, says that all issues have been dealt with.

“We don’t have any particular problems with the reliability of the power unit,” said the Austrian.

“Of course, the operation of the power unit at peak power for a long time gives us a lot of information for study, but we have everything under control.

“For some years we had problems with engine cooling, but this was because our pre-season simulations did not accurately reflect what was happening on the track.

“I believe we have now made a big step forward in this direction,” concluded Wolff.
