During the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, photos surfaced of Toto Wolff wearing Daniel Ricciardo’s merch. The Austrian also commented on Daniel’s Formula 1 future.
Daniel Ricciardo will not have a racing seat in Formula 1 in 2023, however, there are still a lot of rumours swirling around about a possible reserve driver role.
One of the teams that has been mentioned a lot as Ricciardo’s possible destination is Mercedes. At the Mexican Grand Prix, team boss Toto Wolff added more fuel to the fire when he was seen sporting a Daniel Ricciardo jumper.
Ricciardo later explained how Wolff obtained his merchandise.
“I gave George [Russell] a sweater from my collection and Toto wrote to me afterwards to say that he really liked it.
“So I said ‘you’ll get one too’,” he concluded.
A bit later, Toto also confirmed this.
“I’m promoting his merchandise now,” the Austrian said.
“No, seriously, I really like it. They took a picture of me with the silly sunglasses as well and put it online.

“I didn’t expect it to end up on the internet or social media because that probably wasn’t my best moment.”
Since both of Mercedes’ 2022 reserve drivers, Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne, are leaving their roles at the end of the year, Toto was asked if Ricciardo could be coming in.
“I think he is speaking to a few teams about a potential role, and I think Red Bull [is one].
“For us, we very much like him and he is a great character, but we are not in a position yet to decide who going to be reserve and third driver.
“He’s been around for a long time, and he knows these cars inside out, so that can be really advantageous.
“But I don’t want to put any rumours out there because we haven’t decided,” Wolff concluded.
