Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff provides an update on Lewis Hamilton’s health and comments on the Briton having to miss a race.
George Russell will be standing in for Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix, after the seven-time champion tested positive for COVID-19. Toto Wolff says it will not be easy for the champ to watch another person in his car.
“He’s a very competitive person and a racing driver wants to be in his car and not see anybody else driving it,” said the Austrian.
“So I don’t know how he is going to organise his weekend but certainly it’s not an experience that is nice for any professional sportsperson.”
Wolff also said Lewis is not to blame for contracting COVID-19.
“It wasn’t a mistake that he’s done or he didn’t do anything wrong.
“These things happen, the championship is won, but total understanding for not particularly enjoying the experience.”

“I think he is okay, as all of us would be in a foreign country with Covid-19,” concluded Wolff.
When George Russell was asked after qualifying if he has been in contact with Hamilton, the young Briton responded:
“Lewis dropped me a message on Thursday or Friday night, can’t remember now. Just wishing me well and said look after his car which…
“So far so good,” concluded Russell who will be starting the Sakhir Grand Prix from P2.
