After the Canadian Grand Prix, Toto Wolff says Mercedes’ “development direction is true”, but “a victory was maybe a long shot”.
After Mercedes finished the Canadian Grand Prix in P3 and P4, Mercedes team boss says that, even though George Russell was on pole, a victory was perhaps still out of reach.
“A victory was maybe a long shot, or a short dream when George was on the hard and catching up, showing strong pace,” the Austrian said.
“Maybe for a second we thought about it but you mustn’t be too greedy.”
George unfortunately had some tricky moments on the track, and even went off at certain points, but Toto says the important thing is that the W15 is improving.

“On one side he had brilliance then on the other side, maybe one or two we could have avoided.
“But we need to take the positives. The car has made a real step forward, we are bringing bits and the development direction is true.”
He was then asked whether good pace will transfer to other tracks.
“I hope so. Barcelona will be a good test because it has all sorts of corners,” Wolff concluded.
