Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton has been woken up by Brazilian Grand Prix controversies, and warns Mercedes will get its “spicy equipment out” for Saudi Arabia.

Lewis Hamilton scored an amazing dominant win at the Qatar Grand Prix and cut into Max Verstappen’s championship lead.

While Lewis’ race was amazing, Valtteri Bottas suffered a tyre puncture, and the team later decided to retire his car. For this reason, the race was bittersweet for Toto Wolff.

“It’s funny, because the initial feeling is bittersweet,” the Austrian said.

“Both championships are so important and Lewis was great, and the good news is the car is really fast.

“He controlled the race from the front and that’s a good indication for what’s to come in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.

“Valtteri’s puncture came out of nowhere. We tried to reconstruct it, and there was literally no indication… just a tiny vibration, never enough to pit a car.

“Unfortunately for him he was the first one to pick up a puncture.”

As for Lewis, Toto warns he is on a hunt now.

“Lewis is totally in the zone. They woke up the Lion in Interlagos on that Saturday and you see that.

“Saudi should be a good one for us, it has a long straight. We’ll get our spicy equipment out, and the engine out. And hopefully Valtteri’s right up there.

“But anyway, if everybody finishes the race it’s going to Abu Dhabi,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
