Toto Wolff says Mercedes believes that with the Imola upgrades “the balance of the car will be more stable”, and then the team “will be able to reverse the situation there”.

After the first race of the 2023 season, Mercedes decided to head in a different development direction with their car.

The first steps of this new direction will be unveiled next weekend at Imola, and the team already promised the W14 will receive new suspension parts and bodywork, among other things.

Ahead of the much anticipated reveal of the upgrades, team boss Toto Wolff says the team believes they “will be able to reverse the situation”.

“For 8 years we have been the most competitive and we have won all the championships,” the Austrian told DAZN.

“The last season and the beginning of this one has been difficult. Although we have done good performances, we have climbed to the podium, it has been very difficult days.

“A lot of ups and downs, but also a lot of learning. I think the most complicated thing is that we don’t understand when our car is fast and when it’s slow.

“I think that with the step we will take in Imola, we believe, let’s cross our fingers, that the balance of the car will be more stable. That’s when we can develop it.

“I think we will be able to reverse the situation there,” Wolff concluded.
