Mercedes’ Toto Wolff and Mike Elliott think Singapore should “be a bit more like we’ve seen in Budapest and Zandvoort”, where the W13 was very competitive.

Mercedes has had its ups and downs in 2022, when it comes to the performance of its car. While at the Hungaroring and Zandvoort the car was extremely competitive, at Spa it was very much on the back foot.

Mercedes’ team boss Toto Wolff says the upcoming Singapore “track layout should fit our car”.

“The bumps speak against us,” Wolff said of the bumpy street circuit, but added that they “still believe that Singapore will be one of our better circuits”.

“At the same time we want to be careful with forecasts,” he concluded.

Mercedes’ Technical Director Mike Elliott also said the circuit should suit the W13.

“When you look back at the learning we’ve gathered over the season, I think we expect that Singapore [will] be a bit more like we’ve seen in Budapest and Zandvoort,” the Briton said.

“It’s a bumpy circuit, which is going to provide its challenges, but in terms of the nature of the corners, we think it’ll be a bit better for our car.

“As always, we’ll do all the pre-simulation work we need to do, we’ll maximise our learning in the practice sessions, and hopefully we can turn that into a good result at the weekend,” Elliott concluded.
