Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff comments on Valtteri Bottas snatching the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix pole position from Lewis Hamilton.

Valtteri Bottas beat Lewis Hamilton by just 0.097 seconds to achieve Emilia Romagna Grand Prix pole position. Toto Wolff notes the Finn is capable of being extremely fast over a single lap, but Lewis Hamilton still usually manages to beats him over the race distance.

“He is really super fast on a fast lap and you could see that again today,” the Austrian told ORF after qualifying.

“The race is all about understanding and maintaining the tyres. I think Lewis still has a head start on that.”

However Wolff believes Bottas is getting better and closer to Hamilton.

“We also see that Bottas’ learning curve and development curve have grown tremendously, indicating that he is getting closer to Lewis.”
