Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Formula 1 team communications should be even more available to make races more interesting for fans.
Formula 1 has come under fire from fans and the media for being “too boring”, especially in light of Mercedes’ dominance of the 2020 championship. Toto Wolff believes there are ways to make it more interesting right now.
“I understand what the fans say and there are some races which are not very entertaining and there’s others which are the contrary,” Wolff said.
“I think it would be to say there’s good football games and there’s football games but as a matter of fact nobody wants to see a team running away with the championship.
“We always doubt, we don’t really believe that we are running away with the championship but obviously there’s a lot more drama happening behind the curtains, getting parts ready, having engine failed on dynos, trying to bring upgrades to the track last minute.
“Then, like in Belgium, all the worries around making it to the end on a one-stop.
“I think what we should look at really making those communications be available to the fans so they can really follow the action and see what’s going on the intercoms and if every team would open up then maybe that could be an additional way of enhancing the entertainment factor.”

The Austrian also hopes new tracks will ramp up the excitement in the second half of the 2020 season.
“I think Mugello is an unbelievable race track that I know from my time and it will be very exciting to see Formula 1 cars there.
“I am looking forward to going to Portimao – up and down. Again, a very entertaining place, it could be a very entertaining place and then coming back to the iconic Imola too.
“Obviously then Turkey and Bahrain the other way around.
“A lot of changes coming towards us and I hope that they will increase the entertainment factor,” concluded Wolff.
