Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Michael Schumacher’s son Mick will “get the chance to be in a really strong car” if he “develops well”.
Mick Schumacher will make his Formula 1 debut in 2021 with Haas. Being the son of a seven-time world champion, Mick will definitely have the spotlight on him. Toto Wolff believes the young German must be allowed some space to develop as a driver.
“He steps into incredibly big shoes, of course. Michael is an icon – not just in Formula 1, but outside of it,” the Austrian told Sky Germany.
“Mick doesn’t always find it easy to be compared. On the other hand, he’s a young man who knows what he wants and he’s also had achievements in Formula 2 and Formula 3 in the past.

“Now, first and foremost, you have to leave him alone and not always compare him, but allow him his learning years at Haas and whatever comes next.”
While the young German is not expected to fight at the top in a troubled Haas car, Wolff believes Mick will get the opportunity to move up the grid if he showcases his skills.
“If he develops well, he will of course get the chance to be in a really strong car in the future.
“I wish it for him and also his father, the family and Sabine, that one day Mick can fight for victories and for world championships,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
