Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Mercedes has shifted their focus to their 2022 car, and “there is no way of backing out of it” now.
Earlier this year Mercedes announced they will only be bringing smaller updates to the W12 and will instead shift their focus to the development of their 2022 car, in anticipation of Formula 1’s big rule changes.
Despite scoring only 7 points in the last two races, Toto Wolff says this decision will not change.
“We already readjusted the plan to 2022,” the Austrian said after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

“And there is no way of backing out of it. We will not change any decisions that we have taken, strategic decisions just because we had two really bad race weekends.
“We knew that these two race tracks are probably the worst for us and I hope I’m right with that assessment.
“Let’s see how the European races go now but, clearly, these two were absolutely below the standard that we set ourselves and the expectations that we set ourselves,” concluded Wolff.
