Toto Wolff is happy with Mercedes result at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as it could have been a lot worse for the team.
Lewis Hamilton scored another victory today in Hungary, while Valtteri Bottas finished in P3. Things could have been worse, however, as the Finn nearly managed to escape a false start penalty.
“I think bittersweet,“ Wolff told Sky Sports F1.
“I think that was so close to a false start and then it would have been bitter, bitter. So, I think it was a success that we managed to recover and finish 1 and 3 is a great result for the team.
“The car and its engine is a bit of a beast. Just what we needed. The drivers like it. It has good driveability. A lot of power and tons of downforce.

However Mercedes is still weary of Red Bull, who Wolff praised for rising to the occasion and quickly fixing Max Verstappen’s car, after he crashed it into the tyre barrier, 20 minutes before the start of the race.
“To get that car to race, Niki Lauda would’ve taken off his cap before. That was really great work.
“I don’t think it’s a bad race car either. The car certainly doesn’t always perform in the right window, but the car was good today. They’re a worthy opponent.
“When you look at the points, we have three victories out of three races, but there is a 30 point gap. That’s nothing. That is one DNF, and he wins one and the whole gap is gone.
“We just need to keep pushing,” concluded the Austrian.
