Toto Wolff says he thinks “about this car every day, but it’s better to think about it in Sardinia at the beach instead of the office, so I don’t mind the summer break”.
The Belgian Grand Prix saw the return of ‘bouncing’ for Mercedes, and after the race team boss Toto Wolff said it was the “main limiting factor” preventing a great result.
“You can even put Perez into the equation,” the Austrian said.
“We seem to be following similar development routes but there was just one car that was faster – sometimes one and a half seconds per lap when he was pushing at the beginning of the stint.
“We are going to get on top of it. I have seen the data and spoken to the drivers and the main limiting factor was the bouncing.
“The car is bouncing on every straight. Even at Blanchimont, Lewis had to lift which is easy flat normally.

“You are bouncing on the straight, you overheat your tyres under braking so that is a vicious circle and that was the limiting factor this weekend.”
Later, in a talk with Sky Italy, Toto said Mercedes welcomes the summer break, so that they can return reinvigorated and ready to fix the car’s issues.
“I’m frustrated because the car today didn’t do what we wanted. There was a lot of bouncing, so we need the summer break to fix this.
“I think about this car every day, but it’s better to think about it in Sardinia at the beach instead of the office, so I don’t mind the summer break,” Wolff concluded.
