Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff gives his comments on the Formula 1 debut of Michael Schumacher’s son Mick and the return of Fernando Alonso.

Mick Schumacher will make his Formula 1 debut in 2021 with Haas, and being a son of a Formula 1 legend, it is guaranteed that the media and other observers will follow his every move. Toto Wolff believes the young German should be left alone a bit, to allow him to get his bearings.

“You have to leave Mick alone a little, he has an apprenticeship year ahead of him,” the Austrian told Speedweek.

“He is certainly an asset to Formula 1, but you have to give him time to gain a foothold in this environment.”

With the return of the legendary two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso, Wolff believes it will be interesting to see older more experienced drivers compete with the younger generation.

“The interesting thing here is the comparison of the very young, these almost-teenagers, with the 40-year-olds.

“Fernando is one of the most talented drivers and one of the strongest fighters who will be competitive.

“Alonso will want to show that he can still do it, I’m quite sure,” concluded Wolff.
