Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Red Bull had the fastest car by the end of 2020, and he considers the team to be favourites for 2021.
In an interview with Speedweek, Toto Wolff was asked who he thought were the strongest challengers for the 2021 title.
“Red Bull Racing has a strong driver line-up and had the fastest car at the end of the year,” the Austrian explained.
“So they are definitely among the favourites in 2021, especially for the constructors’ championship. I don’t see why they can’t compete for the title in both championships.

Wolff expects Ferrari to become a bigger challenge in 2021, after a lackluster 2020 season, while Mercedes powered McLaren and Aston Martin are also teams to watch.
“It will be interesting to see how Carlos Sainz will do against Charles Leclerc. Ferrari will be stronger than in 2020, they will have to be.
“They had a weak chassis in 2020, but they will have learned from their mistakes.
“McLaren can also provide a surprise in 2021. Daniel Ricciardo is a well-known figure and I myself have high hopes for Lando Norris.
“Aston Martin should also be up front when you have such a big name. It will be fascinating to follow them in 2021,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
UPDATE: Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko gave his response to Wolff’s comments.
“At the moment there is no driving, so he is trying to create tension with words,” Marko told f1-insider.com.
“We hope to be among the frontrunners, but Mercedes is the clear favourite. They have won every title in the hybrid era since 2014.”
