Valtteri Bottas has been penalised with a five-place grid penalty for the next race and two penalty points on his superlicence for causing a crash on Turn 1 of Lap 1 of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Bottas hit the back of Lando Norris’ McLaren under breaking on race start, which caused a crash involving four cars.

The collision took out both drivers, as well as the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Of the four only Max Verstappen was able to continue the race.

Norris later said that Bottas has apologized for the incident.

“Immediately after the start, in the braking zone to Turn 1, car 77 collided with the rear of car 4,” the stewards report read.

“The stewards took into consideration the track conditions, however the driver of car 77 was fully to blame for the collision.”
