At the Turkish Grand Prix Valtteri Bottas mathematically lost the drivers’ championship to Lewis Hamilton. He talks about his ‘disastrous’ race and congratulates the new champion.
On Saturday Bottas qualified in P9, but after a good start of the Turkish Grand Prix he spun off in Turn 1 and ultimately finished in P14. After the race, the Finn wasn’t happy.
“That was a long race, such a long day,” said Botta.
“Obviously in the first lap, everything went wrong… someone in the first corner was spinning, I was avoiding and I spun as well.
“I had contact in Turn 9 and the car was not the same anymore. I struggled to stay on track – I couldn’t stay on track!

“The steering wheel was [offset], there was a piece missing from the front wing. It was a survival. It was a disaster, I tell you, one of the most difficult races I’ve done, for sure.”
In the end Bottas conceded Hamilton was the better man in 2020 and congratulated the newly crowned champion.
“He deserves it fully. He was the better of us this year overall, on average, and he fully deserves it, so really good for him.
“But I’ll try to beat him next year,” concluded Bottas.
