Amid uncertainty over his seat with Mercedes in 2022, Valtteri Bottas says Lewis Hamilton told him “directly” that he would like him to remain his team-mate.

Mercedes in in the middle of deciding who will drive for the team in 2021 next to Lewis Hamilton. The candidates are Valtteri Bottas and George Russell.

After racing in a duathlon, Bottas told Finnish MTV Sport that Lewis told him he would like him to remain his team-mate.

“Yes, Lewis has told me directly that he would like me to be his teammate,” the Finn said.

“Together we can do very well, but it’s a fact that the drivers don’t have a huge impact on these decisions. There’s a bigger machine behind it that ultimately makes those decisions.”

Bottas, who has been with Mercedes on a year-by-year basis since 2017, also told Iltalehti newspaper that he is used to the uncertainty.
