Valtteri Bottas says he played the team game at the British Grand Prix Qualifying by providing Lewis Hamilton with a tow.

Mercedes has dealt the first blow at the British Grand Prix, by qualifying in P1 and P3 for the Saturday Sprint Race.

Lewis bested Max Verstappen by 0.075s to take P1, but had he not lost his rear end in the last sector of his final run, the gap could have been bigger.

Valtteri Bottas admits he played an assisting role in the final qualifying run, by providing Hamilton with a tow.

“Yeah, I think we are a team and we try to get the best results,” said the Finn after the session.

“I think it was a good qualifying based on what we saw in the practice how fast Red Bull was so we managed to get on pole as a team.

“This is the qualifying but then tomorrow we have the qualifying race and there is all the opportunity still. There is all to play for and it’s quite interesting to see how it goes tomorrow.

“Hopefully, we have good race pace but at least we are there and we’re there to fight,” concluded Bottas.
