Toto Wolff says Mercedes is “happy about our reliability”, but “can’t be complacent” because “it can swing in the other direction very quickly”.

Out of the top three ranked teams in 2022, Mercedes has been the only one without a single reliability related DNF, while Red Bull and Ferrari weren’t as lucky.

On the Red Bull side, Max Verstappen has suffered a fuel pump problem in Bahrain, and a fuel leak in Australia, while Sergio Perez also failed to finish in Bahrain due to a fuel pump issue, and got another DNF in Canada due to a gearbox problem.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc suffered engine failures in Baku and Barcelona, while his team-mate Carlos Sainz suffered an hydraulics failure in Baku.

Despite this, Mercedes’ team boss Toto Wolff says his team cannot rest on their laurels when it comes to reliability.

“It’s funny that both teams keep having their cars stop,” Wolff said.

“But you can’t be complacent about that because it can swing in the other direction very quickly.

“We’re happy about our reliability. Last year, when we look at how we went with the engine, we had the other phenomenon [and lots of problems].

“That’s why I don’t want to get too excited too soon,” the Austrian concluded.
