Toto Wolff reveals why the car Lewis Hamilton had driven in the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is displayed in the lobby of their Brackley HQ.
It’s not uncommon for Formula 1 teams to display their latest championship winning car in the lobbies of their team HQs.
However, the car Mercedes has displayed at their Brackley HQ is their 2021 challenger – the Mercedes W12 – the car that Lewis Hamilton had driven at the final race of the season – the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The car did not take Lewis to his history-making eighth world championship, but only after an unjust intervention from the race director influenced the results of the race, and allowed Max Verstappen to win his first world title.
During his appearance on the High Performance Podcast, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff explained why he has that exact car on display.

“It’s a special car because it’s also a car that turned the situation around after Brazil where we thought the championship is gone,” the Austrian said.
“It was a very good car after the summer and it’s a car that reminds all of us that things could go wrong very quickly. Things could be right also very quickly.
“It’s basically how life goes and that car is a stark reminder of all the joy and all the pain a situation can bring with it,” Wolff concluded.
