In 2022 a Red Bull affiliated driver – Alex Albon will drive for a Mercedes powered team – Williams. Naturally, this raises concerns about him revealing confidential information.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff already said that he would help Alex Albon find a seat in Formula 1 if Red Bull would release him from his contract.
Ultimately Albon he did find his way to a Williams seat, even though the British team is powered by Mercedes engines. Despite some concerns, Wolff says there are “clear confidentiality clauses” added to his contract, that prevent him from revealing any confidential information to Red Bull.
“He is a Williams driver for 12 months,” the Austrian said.

“I wouldn’t have wanted anyone to interfere with our driver choice either. But it was important to us that, if a driver from another team with a different engine supplier went to the team, there would be strict and clear confidentiality clauses.
“That has happened in close cooperation with Williams. They understand exactly where we stand and what is important to protect.
“And to be honest, even though it’s none of my business, I fully support Alex. He deserves to drive in Formula 1.”
It has been said that recently announced 2022 Mercedes driver George Russell was a strong advocate for Albon at Williams.
“I owe George a lot of beers,” Albon said jokingly, after his Williams drive was announced.
