Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked to give his thoughts on the media speculation regarding how Lewis Hamilton and George Russell compare right now.

There has been a lot of speculation in the media regarding who performs better for Mercedes right now – Lewis Hamilton or George Russell.

Some have used the first few races of the 2022 season to suggest that Russell have been coping better than Hamilton with Mercedes’ troubled car. Ex-drivers like Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve also gave similar comments.

Toto Wolff says he pays no attention to this kind of speculation.

“I hardly follow it,” the Austrian told OE24.

“And if I overhear one or the other comment, I can only smile about it. George is doing a good job, but that’s exactly what we expected from him, that’s why he’s at Mercedes.

When it was suggested to Toto that some are saying Lewis is lacking focus right now, the Austrian completely dismissed it.

“In the team I don’t notice anything at all. These are background noises that are played over the press.

“Lewis and George push each other,” Wolff concluded.
