Mercedes boss Toto Wolff comments of Ferrari’s announcement that Sebastian Vettel will be leaving the team at the end of 2020.
The world of Formula 1 was stunned when it was announced today that Sebastian Vettel won’t be continuing with Ferrari after 2020. This of course prompted media to speculate where the four-time champion might end up next.
Naturally it also led to more speculation that Lewis Hamilton might leave Mercedes to join Ferrari after his contract runs out at the end of 2020. Of course this was denied by Hamilton on multiple occasions, but when did that stop the F1 rumours factory?
Now German website motorsport-total.com reports that Mercedes team boss gave his comments on the development.
“Seb is a great driver, a great personality and an enrichment for every F1 team,” said Wolff.
“With a view to the future, we are first and foremost committed to loyalty to our current Mercedes drivers, but of course we cannot ignore this development.”
Surely this is not the end of this discussion and Wolff’s comments will certainly be interpreted by some media outlets as indication that Mercedes might be interested to bring Vettel on board. However we believe this most certainly is a case of Wolff creating buzz and using the media to his advantage.
