Sergio Perez will replace Alex Albon as Max Verstappen’s team-mate at Red Bull in 2021. Toto Wolff thinks this will make Red Bull a tougher opponent.

Sergio Perez seemed to be out of a Formula 1 seat, after Racing Point announced it will not keep the Mexican driver for 2021. However, in a last minute announcement, Perez was confirmed as Red Bull’s newest driver. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff believes this addition will provide a boost for the team.

“Definitely, I think Red Bull, with Perez, will be a much stronger opponent in terms of the constructors’ championship,” Wolff told ORF.

“I reckon Sergio will be very strong. It will also be interesting to see how Perez holds up against Verstappen. It’s a new opponent.”

Although, according to the rules, Formula 1 cars will remain mostly unchanged for the 2021 season, Wolff thinks Honda will also give Red Bull a boost, as it will be the Japanese manufacturer’s final F1 season.

“Otherwise, it’s a season with the same cars as last year. I think Honda will really step on the gas to compete for the championship in their last year as a manufacturer.

“That’s why it will be quite interesting,” concluded the Austrian.
