Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is not happy with the way things went at the Belgian Grand Prix, but he is determined to put it in the rear view mirror.

The FIA allowed the Belgian Grand Prix to go on for two laps behind a Safety Car, before stopping the “race” and awarding half-points to the drivers.

This means Max Verstappen and Red Bull reduced Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ advantage in the championship standings without even having to race.

After the race Hamilton said the decision had been made because of money concerns. Toto Wolff was asked about Lewis’ comments and he said they all have “reasons to be upset”, but thinks it’s best for the team to just “move on”.

“Half points have been awarded, when probably it was expected that the weather wouldn’t get any better,” the Austrian said.

“But it is what it is. And I guess you need to take this one on the chin and close the chapter for this race and move on.

“In a certain way, we must really applaud the fans that have been there for three days in the rain, they have waited for a race to happen.

“But as a team, we lost some points and that’s why we have to move on.”

Some have suggested that the race could have been postponed until Monday, but Wolff doesn’t think that was possible.

“Everybody tried hard to get a race under way and because of the rain, it didn’t happen.

“To maybe come back to your Monday question, I think we have had plenty of fans that day that will have to go back to their jobs tomorrow.

“We would have tried to have the race for the local fans, and therefore that wouldn’t have made a great difference for them,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
