Lewis Hamilton gives his verdict on Michael Mann’s 2023 Enzo Ferrari biopic “Ferrari”, as he discusses whether his new F1 movie will ‘blow away’ other racing films.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, while discussing the new Brad Pitt-led Formula 1 movie he is involved in, Lewis Hamilton was asked if he has watched other famous racing movies that have come before, like: Grand Prix (1966), Le Mans (1971), Ford v Ferrari (2019), Rush (2013), etc.
“I do watch all of them,” the Briton said.
“But one thing I think you’ll learn about me is I don’t like to—we live in such a judgmental world, and having seen how, for everything, building something from scratch and creating takes so much time and commitment from so many people—so I never like to be someone to dog anything.”
Asked about the new Ferrari biopic directed by Michael Mann, Lewis said:
“I loved it. One, because Ferrari is Ferrari. And envisioning when they arrive at the factory, seeing some of the history…
“The racing was nuts back then. The cars were so dangerous. Could I look at it and say this could be done better? Of course.

“Capturing racing is really, really difficult, and I don’t think anyone’s been able to really capture it in a way that brings the adrenaline you have as a racing driver.
“But I think it’s one of the best they’ve done. If you look at the old movies, with McQueen, the big camera on the helmet and the guy lying on the front of the car to capture the shot?
“You should see some of the cameras that Joe [Joseph Kosinski, the director of the new F1 movie] is able to use. He’s a visionary.”
When asked whether he thinks his F1 movie needs to “blow these other racing films out of the water”, Lewis said:
“I don’t feel competitive with these movies, but I guess we probably will be.”
