After winning the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was greeted by a loud chorus of boos, when it was time for his post-race interview.

Max Verstappen dominantly won the 2022 F1 title, and also finished the season off with a dominant win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

However, the reception the Dutch driver received from the crowd after the race was not something he was probably hoping for.

While third-placed Sergio Perez and second-paced Charles Leclerc were both cheered by the crowd, when it came time for Verstappen to give his post-race interview, he was greeted by a chorus of boos.

Max received a similar reaction at the 2022 United States Grand Prix, but this was in the immediate aftermath of Red Bull’s 2021 budget cap breach scandal.

Considering that in Abu Dhabi Perez got cheered, the negative reaction for Verstappen probably had more to do with the controversial way in which he won the 2021 title at previous year’s race.

Another possibility is that the crowd was not looking favourable on how he refused to move over for his team-mate Perez at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The reaction is probably a combination of these reasons, and while it is never nice to see drivers getting booed, it just demonstrates how a very large portion of the Formula 1 audience is not impressed with how Verstappen and Red Bull had conducted themselves in the last 12 months.
