2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button says he believes Lewis Hamilton will return to Formula 1 “to win that eighth title” and become “the most decorated F1 driver in history”.
Lewis Hamilton is the most successful Formula 1 driver in history according to all metrics, except by the number of world championship titles. In this category he is tied with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.
With rumours regarding Lewis’ return to the sport in 2022 swirling around, Jenson Button was asked to give his comments on his former team-mate’s future.
“I do know I was the only person to interview Lewis after the last race,” Button said on ‘Good Morning Britain’.
“I mean, the whole world heard that interview, so I don’t have the inside scoop. But I really do hope he’ll be racing – I think he will be racing.

“He wants to win that eighth title to be the most decorated F1 driver in history. He will do that. I really do think so.”
Ultimately, Button thinks the 2021 season was amazing despite the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix final lap controversy.
“It was a controversial end to the season, but I think you’ve got to look at the season as a whole. F1 is in an amazing place, two fantastic drivers going at it every weekend.
“I think everyone’s excited about the new season, the new regulations, and it’s all about the development of these cars through the year,” the Briton concluded.
