Toto Wolff says he still thinks about Abu Dhabi “every day”, and although “sporting fairness” was  “kicked down” on that day, he ultimately “accepted that Max won the championship”.

In an interview with the Italian branch of Motorsport, Toto Wolff talked about coping with the controversial ending of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As is already well known, in the final moments of the race, race director Michael Masi broke the rules which govern the use of the Safety Car, and basically gifted the 2021 title to Max Verstappen.

Wolff reveals he still isn’t over the whole ordeal, but he ultimately accepted the results.

“I think about it every day,” the Austrian said.

“But I accepted that Max won the championship, because he is a champion who deserves what he got.

“As it turned out, look, I think I have important values like fairness, and in particular sporting fairness, and that’s what gave birth to my love of sport.

“Unfortunately, on that particular day, this value was kicked down,” Wolff concluded.
