Toto Wolff says “the reason we didn’t perform as expected this year is that we didn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together”, but now “the puzzle is complete”.
Toto Wolff says Mercedes’ season-long performance issues were ‘quite a wake-up call’, and adds the team had to acknowledge that they ‘dropped the ball on several levels’.
“We have to be humble and have to pick ourselves up,” he told Formule1.nl.
“If something goes wrong, we blame the problem, not the person.
“Precisely now we have to find out what can be done better and take risks: we have always been strong at Mercedes.”

Wolff says in 2022 Mercedes has learned “that winning is not obvious”, but the team “should especially not do crazy things” while trying to improve their performance.
Ultimately Wolff says that Mercedes has managed to get to the bottom of their issues, which bodes well for the team’s performance in the years to come.
“The puzzle is complete. The reason we didn’t perform as expected this year is that we didn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together.
“Believe me, this is not the end of our dominance, this is just an interruption,” the Austrian concluded.
