Toto Wolff in the long-term perspective, Mercedes “will have many more world championships”, but “that no longer matters for Lewis”.

Lewis Hamilton’s blockbuster 2025 move to Ferrari has been announced almost a week ago, but the Formula 1 world is still buzzing about it.

In a talk with Motorsport-Total.com, as quoted by GPBlog.com, Toto Wolff said Lewis’ decision to leave Mercedes would have been clearer had he decided to go to Red Bull.

“If he had gone to Red Bull Racing, the drive behind it would have been clear,” the Austrian said.

“That is the best package in the short term.”

Toto went on to say how Lewis has perhaps not been able to see the motivation and energy within Mercedes to turn things around.

“What was perhaps not so visible to him was the energy that is in the team, the drive to do things better.

“It is a matter of trial and error, I have no idea how many more times we will fall, but I know we always get back up.

“If we look back in 10 or 20 years, we will have many more world championships.

“But of course, that’s a long-term perspective, and that no longer matters for Lewis,” Wolff concluded.
