Lewis Hamilton is still on his third engine of the season, but some believe a swap is inevitable. This means Lewis would have to start one of the following races at the back of the grid.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked if Mercedes could swap Lewis’ engine at this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix. While the Austrian admits an engine swap is possible, he would not commit to a timeframe.

“It’s a possibility. When, and how, is not yet decided,” Wolff told Sky Sports F1.

“Most important is that you don’t DNF because of a reliability issue. You can cope with swings, whether you finish second, third, I think that is OK, the championship is going to go long.

“But if you don’t finish… So we are looking at the parameters of the engines, making sure we don’t suffer from any reliability problems.”

Lewis triumphantly won last year’s wet Turkish Grand Prix to claim his seventh world title, but Wolff says the result doesn’t guarantee success this year.

“Lewis has been tremendous there, but we have to take each race at a time. It’s so difficult, the cars are so close.

“I’m curious to see how this championship evolves,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
