AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda says he “learned a lot” for Lewis Hamilton during their battle for eighth place at the Turkish Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton started the Turkish Grand Prix from eleventh place due to an engine-related grid penalty. He quickly progressed to P9, right behind Yuki Tsunoda.
Tsunoda managed to hold Lewis off until Lap 8, when he finally got overtaken. The Japanese driver says the battle was a great experience.
“I enjoyed it a lot,” Tsunoda said at the Thursday press conference.

“Especially [when] I didn’t expect I could block him or keep him behind for eight laps. So that was good. After that, eventually I spun. But, until then, it was really fun.”
The rookie also acknowledged how much he was able to learn from the seven-time champion.
“I was just always watching mirrors. And then, after he passed, he made the gap really fast so I couldn’t see much but how he overtook… how he took different lines and tried to overtake me… I learned a lot from him, even when I was in front of him.
“But yeah, I learned a couple of things from him,” concluded Tsunoda.
