Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the team had to sacrifice a bit of speed, so that their cars would not be damaged by Austin circuit’s bumps.

After the United States Grand Prix Qualifying Toto Wolff revealed Mercedes’ cars were bottoming out due to Circuit of the Americas’ bumps.

“So we took some mitigating steps to not break it, or massacre it that hard, in order to survive the race.

“Definitely a compromise for going faster on the track, but maybe a necessity to actually finish,” concluded the Austrian.

Red Bull also faced a similar situation, when the team noticed there was a cracked wing on Max Verstappen’s car.

Thankfully for Red Bull the FIA allowed them to strengthen some of the parts on their cars ahead of qualifying.
