Lewis Hamilton says Red Bull “were quicker all weekend” at the United States Grand Prix, however he was happy with “finally” getting a good start.
Lewis Hamilton tried his best to beat Max Verstappen at the United States Grand Prix, he got incredibly close in the closing stages of the race, but was ultimately unable to attack the Dutch driver.
Afterwards, at the post-race press conference, Lewis conceded Red Bull was simply faster.
“I think they were quicker all weekend, on all tyres today,” Hamilton said.
“Just in the heat, I think the real strength has shone through this weekend, a bit like it has in other places, like Bahrain, this year. So, yeah, I did the best I could with what we had.”
Mercedes did start off the weekend in dominant fashion, with a one-two at Friday’s first free practice, however very soon Red Bull got the upper hand.

When asked if he knew what happened to Mercedes’ pace as the weekend progressed, he said:
“No, I think they just got quicker. I have no idea about it.”
However, Lewis did have a great start from P2, as he managed to overtake polesitter Max Verstappen.
“Yeah, great start, and the goal was to get in the lead and finally got a good start, I’ve not had as good a start as that for a long time so I was really happy with it.
“And then it was just about staying clean and coming out ahead and holding onto it so it felt good at the time, to get into the lead.
“I thought this is best step one but, as I said, they were just too quick,” concluded the seven-time champion.
