Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff gives his thoughts on the title 2021 fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

In an interview with Speedweek.com Toto Wolff was asked how a fight with another team compares to previous intra-team title battles.

“It is true that we had this experience in-team for many years,” the Austrian said.

“But it wasn’t that long ago that Sebastian Vettel was a competitor in the Ferrari, who was even ahead before the summer break.

“Seen in this way, the current situation is not a new one for us. Even if it is puffed up into a fight of Kings, this is normal day-to-day business for us.”

Wolff also says he expects the close title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton to last until the very last race of the season.

“We noticed at the beginning of the season during the tests that the regulations had bitten us. The pendulum then swung back and forth, once to us, once to Red Bull Racing.

“We had the upper hand again, but in Austin RBR was a bit better and a deserved winner. The back and forth will probably last until the final race.

“There are days when we are clearly the fastest in practice in the morning and totally miss the point in the afternoon, as we did recently in Austin. So, nothing is fixed.”

In the end Toto leaves us with a hint of optimism about the upcoming races.

“We now have a good car that we understand better than before. Our advantage is that we don’t have to prove anything anymore. That makes it easy for us to act. I don’t know how it looks for the others.

“We have built enough self-confidence for this situation,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
