Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he is certain him and Lewis Hamilton “will do the best possible job together next year too”.

Lewis Hamilton has committed to two more years with Mercedes, but his future beyond that is a subject of speculation.

In an interview with Speedweek.com Toto Wolff said the Briton is still not seriously thinking about his retirement.

“We are very close and we exchange ideas every day,” the Austrian said.

“But we both know that an F1 career is a moving goal. There is no date he is committed to. What is certain is that we will do the best possible job together next year too.”

In the past Wolff has also spoken about his future and the possibility of stepping away from his team principal role. However,  he says it is still not in the cards.

“I still enjoy my role in the team a lot. Nevertheless, I will change gradually one day. I would like to continue some things and distribute others differently within the team. To get more time to think…”

Mercedes has recently announced that they will sell their Formula E team after next season. Wolff was asked if there is a possibility of him buying the team, as his next career move.

“We have decided that Mercedes will end its Formula E involvement at the end of 2022,” Toto explained.

“The team is then dissolved or sold. I am out of the question as a buyer. The 33.33 percent share in the Formula 1 team is enough for me.

“With the termination of the FE engagement, I will also give up my 30 percent of the shares there.”

Asked if Mercedes already has a buyer for the team, Wolff gave a resounding “No”.
