Lewis Hamilton says he wouldn’t mind if he had to ask Valtteri Bottas for support in his quest to win his eighth Formula 1 championship.
With Max Verstappen 19 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the 2021 drivers’ championship standings, and Red Bull’s car obviously faster than Mercedes’, Lewis Hamilton is bracing for a tough race in Brazil.
“I can imagine it won’t be easy,” the Briton said.
“Red Bull’s pace was clearly impressive in the last race. They’ve had the strongest car on average all season, but they were even stronger in Mexico.”
The Brazilian Grand Prix will host the last sprint qualifying race of the season, which means drivers will have only one free practice session before qualifying on Friday.
“What we’re really trying to focus on is getting the car set up correctly, which isn’t easy, but I think it’s probably the same problem for everyone.
“We’re going to work on getting a good start to the weekend, which is crucial as we only have one hour of free practice.”

Lewis was asked if he thinks a win in Brazil is crucial to keep his championship hopes alive.
“Every race has to be won. After the summer break we always tried to bring home the maximum from every weekend, but we didn’t.”
And there’s no doubt that Hamilton and Verstappen’s team-mates will play a crucial role in the last four races of the season.
The Briton was asked if he would ask Bottas to support him in his quest to win his eighth Formula 1 title.
“Well, it’s a team sport. I don’t mind having to do that,” Lewis said.
“We have seen when you have a Red Bull in front of you and one behind you, the strategy limits you to defending, so if there is an opportunity you have to attack as a team.
“That’s also why every team has two cars on the track,” concluded the seven-time champion.
