Lando Norris says Verstappen’s move was “purposely done”

McLaren’s Lando Norris says the FIA letting Max Verstappen off the hook for driving Lewis Hamilton off the track at the Brazilian Grand Prix is not fair.

Earlier this year Lando Norris received a five-second penalty for pushing Sergio Perez off the track at the Austrian Grand Prix. On that occasion Norris drove onto the kerbs, which pushed Perez onto the gravel.

Max Verstappen did a similar thing to Lewis Hamilton at the Brazilian Grand Prix, but the difference is that Norris made the corner and didn’t leave the track, while Verstappen couldn’t even make the corner so both him and Lewis went off the track.

Norris believes that it is unfair that he got penalised and Verstappen didn’t.

”His looked a lot more intentional than mine,” the Briton said.

“I mean, he didn’t steer into Lewis, but he didn’t continue to steer into the corner either. It was obviously purposely done and very wide. He pushed the limits.”

Asked it Verstappen should have been punished, Norris says it’s not an easy answer, but there should be consistency in the FIA’s decisions.

”It’s a tough one I guess. I mean, I love the fact that they let us race. And it makes it very exciting that those two are racing for the championship.

“But you can’t bias something because it’s for a championship and then give someone who is 10th or 11th a penalty because they’re not racing for a championship.

“That’s not fair. There has to be consistency. It’s something that will be brought up in the drivers’ meeting this week for sure”, Norris concluded.
