Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes at this point in the 2021 season, “under normal circumstances” Max Verstappen “doesn’t stand a chance“ against Lewis Hamilton.

Ralf Schumacher has in the past often been critical of Lewis Hamilton, however, even he can see that the momentum has swung in the seven-time champion’s direction.

“The Mercedes is currently the more stable package,” Schumacher told Sky Germany.

“Max gives everything and shows how good he is. Under normal circumstances, though, he doesn’t stand a chance.“

As for Red Bull’s constant insinuations that Mercedes’ car in not legal, Schumacher says the German team “does not have to cheat”.

“I do not assume that any team willfully disregards the rules. If you go close to the limit, something can always go wrong and you get into grey areas.”

Ultimately, Ralf believes only “luck” can help Verstappen win the title now.

“Maybe he has the luck he has lacked so far. If he had this [luck] at the beginning of the season, he might already be World Champion by now,” concluded the German.
