Toto Wolff and Mercedes pay tribute to Sir Frank Williams

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he is “incredibly grateful and proud” to had been “a small part” of Sir Frank Williams’ Formula 1 journey.

Toto Wolff got his start in Formula 1 with the Williams F1 team. Back in 2009 he bought into the team and became a shareholder, and in 2012 he was named the team’s executive director. A year later he left to lead the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

After learning the sad news of Sir Frank Williams’ passing, Wolff was quick to pay tribute to his former boss and partner.

“If there was one man who stood for perseverance, resilience and stamina, then it was Sir Frank,” the Austrian said.

“I am incredibly grateful and proud to have had the chance to work with him and been a small part of his journey.

“Many of us at Mercedes will continue to see him as a great inspiration. Rest in peace, Sir Frank.

“The thoughts of myself and the Team are with his family and our friends at Williams,” Wolff concluded.

The Mercedes F1 team also released a statement on Sir Frank’s passing.

“Today we mourn the passing of a true titan of our sport, Sir Frank Williams,” Mercedes wrote.

“Sir Frank, through his grit and determination and an unmatched passion for racing built one of the sport’s great teams.

“Our thoughts are with his family and everyone at Williams Racing,” the team concluded.

Mercedes has been supplying Williams with their power units since 2014, while Sir Frank was still the team principal.
