Former F1 driver Martin Brundle says Lewis Hamilton “shifted into overdrive” after the summer break, which might make his the favourite to take the 2021 title.
After the amazing performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes carried their performance boost into Qatar, where Lewis took another splendid victory.
As we approach the penultimate race of the season in Saudi Arabia, Martin Brundle says Lewis Hamilton now seems to be the favourite to take the title.
“It’s almost like he’s shifted into overdrive,” Brundle said.
“He always did that after the summer break and then people just didn’t understand how it was possible that he kept grabbing the Mercedes titles.

“I think he’s done the same now, maybe a bit later than usual, but Mercedes have also shifted up a gear.
”Suddenly you wonder if he’s not the favourite for the championship, especially with this momentum right now.”
However, considering how many times the momentum has shifted between Hamilton and Verstappen this season, Brundle says anything can still happen.
“All it takes is one misstep, one bit of unreliability, contact, a puncture or something and Max could decide it this weekend. It probably won’t happen, but it could.
“The balance is just beautiful. Red Bull will probably hope it goes back and forth a bit like the rest of the season”, concluded the Briton.
