Lewis Hamilton says if he wins the 2021 championship, it will be the best title he has won so far, as being an eight-time champion is “a new position, uncharted territory”.
Lewis Hamilton approaches the penultimate race of the 2021 with an eight point deficit to Max Verstappen in the championship standings.
If he wins the 2021 title, he will surpass Michael Schumacher and become the only man in history to win the Formula 1 championship eight times.
Asked by The Telegraph if this would be his best title win yet, the Briton said it would.
“If I get the job done, I think it will, yes,” Lewis said.
“But also, no one has ever been able to fight for an eighth, aside from Michael. It is a new position, uncharted territory.”

It will definitely be a hard job, but whatever happens in the last two races, Hamilton says he will have no regrets.
“This is the best I have been able to give in a year, the training, the time balance that I have.
“I made every sacrifice I could this year. I don’t think I have left anything undone, so at this point of the year there are no regrets.
“I am proud of everything we have done. There were times when we were 32 points behind. I know how hard it is to catch them up.
“At the time it feels impossible, but somehow we recovered,” concluded the seven-time champion.
