Toto Wolff and Mick Schumacher talk about the possibility that today Lewis Hamilton will win his eighth F1 championship and surpass Michael Schumacher.

Lewis Hamilton is entering a potentially history-making race today, where he could surpass Michael Schumacher and become the only person in history to win the F1 title eight times.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says that would not diminish Schumacher stature among the all-time greats.

“Nobody will ever be greater than Schumi,” Wolff told BILD newspaper.

“Even if the statistics show Lewis at the front… Michael shaped a generation like no other. He is iconic.

“You cannot make comparisons across generations. Lewis is the greatest of his generation.”

Michael Schumacher’s son Mick was also asked how he would feel if his father’s record would be surpassed.

“Well, I think nothing is decided yet, so I can’t tell you how I feel about it,” Mick said.

“Obviously, I think my feelings are respect for both of them, that this year only they can win the championship.

“Yes, it will for sure be interesting to see and whoever wins will win – I can’t do anything about that.”
